Choptank Fleet: Meeting Summary

Our Wednesday preseason Choptank Fleet meeting was productive.
We reviewed the NORSI for the regular season and the Stedman Smith Cup.

PHRF or ORR?
Much discussion addressed PHRF verses ORR.
Several of us will obtain ratings for ORR.  Jay Tyson will score us as a shadow score to compare the results.
After a season, the fleet can decide on which rating system, we will use.

One Spinnaker Fleet or Two.
There is a desire for the creation of a second Spinnaker fleet. for now, call it Spinnaker-B.
The fleet would be voluntary, but, would only permit boats of a higher PHRF to compete in the class.

Spinnaker-A
Currently, we have a robust J-29 Fleet which grows every year. The J-29's would comprise most of the Spinnaker-A Class.  Anyone that wanted to compete with the Spinnaker-A fleet would be welcome.  A nominal cut off would be a PHRF of 125. Boats with ratings higher than 125 would have the option to compete and be scored in the Spinnaker-A fleet.

Spinnaker-B
This class will be composed of boats with a PHRF greater than 125, Boats in this class will be better matched to race against each other. The challenge will be to get enough boats to fill the class.
This class will sail the same the same course as the Spinnaker-A course.  A minimum of three boats is required to make any race official.

Skippers, If you are interested in sailing in the Spin-B class please reply to essasailing38@gmail.com

Non-Spinnaker
No changes will be made to the Non-spinnaker class. Any vessel may join this class as always.

Other notes
All classes will start at the same time using the traditional six-minute horn sequence, See Choptank NORSI for more details,

The committee boat will need a substitute vessel from time to time. We are looking for a suitable boat to support the Race Committee.

A second starting vessel would be helpful to watch the other end of the starting line. This will assist the RC as it is difficult to see over-early vessels if several boats are blocking the view.
