Boy Scouts Sailing Adventure, August 22 & 26, 2023

 Hello ESSA Sailors,

In the month of August, Boy Scout Troop 185 (boys 14-18) are going to learn how to sail!  Kristin and I will be conducting 4 hrs of classroom instruction during the month and we will culminate with hands-on sailing at the end of the month.  We are looking for Captains who are willing to volunteer their time and boats to support the Boy Scouts.

There are TWO opportunities. The main one is Saturday, August 26 (9-3pm?).  On this day, we are looking to sail to Oxford, stop at the TAYC for lunch (boys will bring bag lunch), walk to the Scottish Island Creamery and then return sail to Cambridge. The goal is for them to take turns with the main, jib, helming & docking etc. to get a hands-on experience of sailing.   We will provide Skippers with lunch, water for the trip, and ice cream in exchange for your time!

The second opportunity is a short 1 hour sail Tuesday, August 22 at 5:30pm.  This would be the TUESDAY before the SATURDAY outing. It would be an opportunity to let the boys get a "taste" for sailing and give them a chance to ask any questions before the long sail on Saturday. Due to time constraints, this opportunity would be best served by the Tangier fleet if anyone is available that day.

Please let us know if you are interested in helping with one or both of these dates.  It will be an opportunity that is sure not to disappoint!!

Thank you in advance.

PS  Between now and then If anyone would like some rail meat for racing let me know and I will see if any of the Scouts can come.
