ESSA WNR on the Choptank, July 3, 2019

Summary: The current was stronger than the wind.

Many thanks to the Committee Boat for their efforts on a difficult evening on the Choptank.

So what happens if there is no wind?

The following are excerpts from our WNR NORSI,
(Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions)

There will be three series of six races as follows:
 First Series:      May 8, 15, 22, 29; June 5, 12.
 Second Series:  June 19, 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24
 Third Series:    July 31, August 7, 14, 21, 28, September 4.
 Fall Series:        September 8, 15, 22, (Sundays, 10 AM, 2 races/day)

No make-up races will be held.

2.7       Three boats in a class must sail to make a race.  Races with fewer than three boats will not be scored.  Four races are required to constitute a Series.  There will be one discard in each Series.  A boat serving as stationary committee boat will receive the average points of the others counted races in that series.

5.4       Time Limit:  The first boat in each class must finish within 90 minutes of the starting signal. Subsequent boats in each class must finish within 45 minutes of the first boat in the class to finish.  For boats still racing when time expires (and at least one boat has finished within the limit) they shall be scored DNF. No sound signal will be made. Time will be determined by GPS. This modifies rules 35 and A11.

5.6.5   If a race is abandoned due to weather by the RC, it will not count in that Series.

5.7     If necessary, the RC may shorten a course at any mark utilized in the race that evening.  The shortened course flag should be flown and announced on VHF 67.

Sometimes still air is a nice thing.
