Choptank Fleet: Choptank Cup, October 9th

The granddaddy of races, 30 plus Nautical Miles, rounding Sharp's Island light. The course will be altered since Green Buoy 25 has been removed. The 2021 NORSI will clear up that issue.  This is a classic Non-Spin PHRF race. Tamarind skippered by Mark Mc is the defending champion.

Tangier Fleet News, October 2, 3 2020

Hi all,

We will be doing a fun sail on Sunday normal time -  After the fun sail we would like to get an idea of how many are interested in attending the after party for purposes of food purchases.  In addition we would like to determine the start time of the Grey Goose on October 11, 2020 as these races usually are a bit longer depending on the weather.

The after parties will be held outside to accommodate social distancing and "masks" will be required to ease some members' anxiety.

Kevin and I will be handling all the food to eliminate multiple hands preparing or handling the food and Kevin will be making Brats and there will be sides.

If anyone wants to bring anything - prepackaged cookies or desserts would be great.

There will also be a scheduled party at Bob Gordon's house after the Gosling Cup on October 18th.  Again we would like to start a bit earlier so the festivities don't go too late in the day.

Happy Sailing and see you all Sunday.

Rhonda and Kevin

Labor Day Events: Skipjack Races at Deal Island; Captain's Cup, September 7, 2020

Skipjack Hertiage Race Instructions- Click Here

Attached are the Race Instructions for the races at Deal Island on Labor Day, Sept. 7, 2020.  The Race Instructions for the Captain's Cup are also included.

The Skipjack Heritage Assoc. will reserve dock space in the Deal Island harbor at no charge for ESSA members for Sunday night prior to Labor Day.  This makes for a great cruise/race weekend.  Racers can do just the Skipjack Race and then head back to Cambridge or continue on to Bivalve for the Captain's Cup.

I don't know how many more chances we will have to race with these historic boats that are depicted on our burgee.

Please reply to Deke if you are interested so he can coordinate with the Skipjack Heritage.

Tangier Fleet: SUNDAY

I am pleased to say Barry and Barbie Hall have offered to prepare brats and sauerkraut for an after-race cookout on Sunday!  And the perpetual vodka bottle has been unearthed :) !

Please bring a dish to share (side dishes and dessert welcome), and bring your own drinks.

Also, we will have utensils, plates, etc., but if you can bring your own reusable stuff that would be great.    I'd love to see our fleet transition to no-waste events as much as possible.

See you soon!
Judith

Tangier Results: Frostbite Series, September 22, 2019

Tangier Fleet Reports sept 15, 2019

We should probably change the name of this from Frostbite Series to the Party Series - we're headed down the home stretch for the Gray Goose and Gosling races.  And it was pretty warm today, with what started out as not enough wind for a race.

Persisting paid off as we got a nice fill from the west finally, and Puff Daddy lucked out to catch it well ahead.

Congratulations to P.D., Peace of Heaven, and TS Sweeney.  Other boats in order of finish were MarCat, Wind Dance, and Just a Splash.

Tangier Fleet finishes another successful season,

A fun end to the series and the official season!  Congratulations to Lolly, Peace of Heaven, and Puff Daddy!

We begin Sunday racing this Sunday, race starts at 2pm and course will be set for boats to start and take their own times.

I would like to have a brief discussion after the race about the protest situation from last night.  I think it would be good to try to reconstruct what happened even though the protest won't be officially recorded.  Hopefully everyone involved in or witnessing what happened can be there.

Thanks again to Barry and JT for the cookout!

Anyone looking at boats in the 20 to 24 foot range should take a close look at the Tanzer 22. Over 2200 of these boats were built. In fact, anyone buying a Tanzer 22 will quickly discover that they are part of a network of owners who take a great deal of pride in their boats.

All this means that many Tanzer 22s are being actively raced as a one-design or under PHRF. But this is also a boat that can take a small family out for a short cruise. It has a big cockpit and a flush deck which provides for lots of sunbathing space. Below there is more room than first meets the eye, despite the fact that the bulkhead which divides the v-berth from the main cabin gives the appearance of cramped quarters. On top of all this, the Tanzer 22 has gained a considerable reputation for seagoing capabilities. While this boat was available with a swing keel, most were built with the fin keel.
