Hi All!
Well, the Grey Goose finally landed last Sunday! After two postponements we were able to run the Grey Goose and it turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day for sailing: A steady 10 knot wind and 65 degree temperatures. The race lasted over two hours and once again, THISTLE came from the middle of the pack to win, Congratulations THISTLE!
Following the race we had a fantastic cookout thanks to John and Janine Motsko and Barry Hall. It was a great end to a fun season.

With the end of the 2016 racing season I’d like to thank everyone for their participation and give a special THANK YOU to a number of volunteers: Judith Stribling for doing the scoring, Betsy Cottingham and John Womack for taking care of the Small Boat Days, Sue and Bob Gordon for hosting the Gosling cookout, Janine and John Motsko for the Grey Goose cookout, Barry Hall for making a season of after-race cookouts a reality, and new member Leah Creswell for stepping up and hosting one when no one else was available. THANK YOU ALL!

Pete

Grey Goose, SUNDAY, OCT 30th, 2016

Well folks, hopefully the third time is the charm for the Grey Goose.
***
The race will be this SUNDAY, OCT 30th (1:30 Captains’ Meeting). We will once again do a reverse start so please bring a stop watch. Remember, there will be the normal start sequence and then each boat will start at the listed time. So once the start signal goes off, start your watch so you can cross the line at your assigned time.
The after race cookout will be at the small pavilion at the Cedar Hill marina. Chefs John & Jannine Motsko and Barry Hall have teamed up to handle the cooking. They will provide the main courses and sides and ask that everyone bring APPETIZERS and DESSERTS. And, as always, BYOB!
See you there!

Pete

ESSA Sailors and Boats Compete in 2016 Governor’s Cup

The 43rd annual Governors Cup was a wild ride with the wind on the nose all night. Gusts exceeded 22 knots periodically for the fleet racing from Annapolis to Historic St. Mary's City. Those boats who pounded through the night were welcomed to the historic waterfront with sunshine, music, great food, and beer. John Moore in “Seahawk” placed 3rd  in PHRF B and 1st  in the alumni fleet. Bob Dickey in “Touche’”
came in 5th, and Mark McIver in “Tamarind” 7th out of the 12 boats competing in PHRF N. Congratulations to skippers and crew, it was a great showing from ESSA and we look forward to next year.
