Paprika Needs Crew

Hi all,

Paprika is almost ready to go for Wednesday nights.  I firmly believe she can participate in next week’s race (non-spin).

So if anyone is interested in going out next week and in the future, please have them contact me.

Paprika is located in slip E-30 in the city marina and has the new red canvas.

Choptank Fleet, Paprika looking for crew

 Hello,

 

Paprika is very close to being ready to participate in her maiden ESSA Choptank Wednesday night race!  I had two guys lined up but they both bailed so I'm seeking racers/cruisers/warm bodies to help sail her.  She has her new deck hardware installed; clutches, line organizers, and genoa car leads, as well as new halyards (sheets should be here soon), backstay line, and Sailrite canvas sewn by yours truly.  Sails are in very good shape!  Her Yanmar 2GM20 was just restarted Friday and runs great with her folding prop.

She's in the non-spin class and my goals for this season are to meet the other crews and skippers, not hurt other boats or Paprika, and have a good time, all the while learning racing as we go.  Truth be told, I had a season racing a few years ago on Aura, Bob Gallagher's J boat.  Learned a bunch, but then got injured and eventually moved out of town.

I appreciate anyone helping out.  Any and all are welcome!  Feel free to call, text or email, or stop by if you're on the docks.

Wednesday, July 25, 2018: HELP need to staff Committee Boat

Choptank Fleet,

 

We are in need of volunteers to staff the Race Committee boat.

Ron Freund will be the boat.

His regular crew members are all unavailable.

 

It would be most helpful if some volunteers would step forward to fill the crew.

Three people would be ideal, timer, recorder, and a person to identify the boats as they finish. 

 

Attached is the RC back-up schedule which puts Mike S. of No-Name on board as RC.

Tom J. of Reveille is the first alternate for RC.

Lunch Meeting February 17, 2018

Join us at noon Saturday, February 17, 2018 upstairs at La Tolteca Mexican Restaurant, 110 Truitt Street, Salisbury, MD.  After lunch is ordered from the menu, there will be a short business meeting followed by a discussion on “Sail Trim and Racing Tactics” by Jonathan Bartlett from North Sails.  Join your colleagues and meet new ones.  Annual membership and racing fees may be paid at this time also.

Lunch Meeting March 17, 2018

Join ESSA for lunch at noon on Saturday, March 17, 2018, upstairs at Jimmy and Sook’s Restaurant, 527 Poplar Street, Cambridge, MD.  After lunch, Jay Tyson from the Chesapeake Racer Cruiser Association will give a presentation on "Making Cruiser Racing Fun."  Join us to celebrate St. Patrick and put some Irish luck in your summer racing.  This will be the last opportunity for discounted dues.

Message from a former Choptank Sailor

Hello ESSA! 
Greetings from the son of a former Essa Commodore :)

I am wondering 2 things. One, can one rent a sailboat for a day out of Cambridge?

And two, is there a possibility of getting on a "crew needed" list for one of the Wednesday night races? Specifically for either June 21 or 28. We did those races for many years back in the 80s and 90s. It was one of the best times in my life!

Anyway I'll be back visiting soon and am hoping to get out on the Choptank one way or another.
