Fleet Captain: Bob Gallagher
Special Races
Wild Goose Chase, September 19
Stedman Smith Cup: This race to Oxford and back commemorates the contributions of Dr. Smith to the Association. It is a PHRF with a twist – Arrive by Noon at the Tred Avon Yacht Club for lunch, even if motoring required; a different skipper on the return leg. This beautiful trophy was made from a trophy cup found in Dr. Smith’s basement after his death and the wood base is from a piece of the mast from the skipjack “Susan May” which sailed the waters of the Chesapeake from 1940 to sometime in the 1990’s, this award was first given out in 2000.
Wild Goose Chase: Originated by the now defunct Wild Goose Brewery in Cambridge in 1992. This is a persuit race with starting times determined by actual performance in the Wednesday night series, to the Choptank Light and return. 14.5 nm race, 11-minute time span for the three places at the finish.
Choptank Cup: Premier and longest event of the season to Sharps Island Light and return. 31 nautical miles round trip.
