Barcelona Regatta, DEJA VOUS, DEJA VOUS,

Trieste, Italy. (Sounds like the Choptank Cup.)

Olympic sailing crews, boating enthusiasts, and excitement-thirsty locals packed Trieste’s piers, old-world cafes, and vast square facing the sea.

Everything was in place.  Except for the wind. “Not a breath of it,”

Last year, the 50th anniversary of the Barcelona, as the race is called, included 2,689 boats with 16,000 sailors, making it the largest regatta in the world by some counts.

Where's Waldo?

Red Sky skippered by Ron Freund was the Committee Boat.  His boat is in the upper right-hand corner of the photograph.

Tangier Fleet: SUNDAY

I am pleased to say Barry and Barbie Hall have offered to prepare brats and sauerkraut for an after-race cookout on Sunday!  And the perpetual vodka bottle has been unearthed :) !

Please bring a dish to share (side dishes and dessert welcome), and bring your own drinks.

Also, we will have utensils, plates, etc., but if you can bring your own reusable stuff that would be great.    I'd love to see our fleet transition to no-waste events as much as possible.

See you soon!
Judith

Hope everyone can make it!

Choptank Cup Postponed until Saturday October 19, 2019

The Choptank Cup Race has been postponed until Saturaday, October 19, 2019.
All participants should re-acquaint themselves with the NOR &SI.

The decision to postpone proved to be wise as the winds last Saturday were mostly less than 5 knots.
With any luck, maybe the winds will be 10 knots or better on October 19.
The fleet captain will decide if any adjustment to the course will be applied.

This is an opportunity for other boats to participate.  If you would like to join the race,

Send a note to essasailing38@gmail.com

The time of each class winner will be compared to the average corrected time of the 2nd and 3rd place boats in that class. The class winner with the greatest time differential over the class average will receive the Choptank Cup.

Choptank Cup, October 12, 2019

SAVE THE DATE!
CHOPTANK CUP,
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2019.

Bad weather date: Saturday, October 19, 2019

ESSA Fleet,

This is the granddaddy of the Choptank Races.  A 31.90 Nautical Mile round trip from Cambridge to Sharp's Island Light.  Last year, 2018, the wind and weather did not co-operate causing a shortened race. Let's hope this year is a repeat of 2017.

Please reply to essasailing38@gmail.com if you intend to compete.

All participants must pay a $10 fee payable before or at the Skipper Meeting.
Checks should be made payable to ESSA.
This is a PHRF event. depending on the participants, it will be a spin or non-spin event.
We will need a volunteer Committee Boat to start the race. Skippers mark their own finish times.
